SHREVEPORT NATIVE NOMINATED FOR SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD

A local stuntman/actor, Mark Yawn, is a member of a stunt team that has been nominated for this years 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards [SAG-AFTRA].The awards will be televised this Sunday January 25 on TNT and TBS at 7pm Central. The award is for “OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A STUNT ENSEMBLE IN A MOTION PICTURE”. The stunt nomination for the motion picture, “GET ON UP”, is about the life of legendary entertainer and singer James Brown known as the godfather of soul, and was produced by The Rolling Stones’ lead singer, Mick Jagger.

Mr. Yawn was part of a very small group of 11 stuntmen from all over the country, led by stunt coordinator Lex Geddings., who lived and worked in the Shreveport-Bossier area for several years and now resides in Baton Rouge. Yawn states “ I am very honored and  humbled to be a small part of a great group and learn from one of the best stunt coordinators the film industry has to offer!”
There were only 5 films nominated in the category which makes it even more impressive.

"This is a great example of how Louisiana's pro-business tax structure creates opportunities for Louisiana citizens. Mark certainly deserves this recognition that was only made possible due to the associations that he has made working on other movies filming throughout Louisiana," said Louisiana State Representative Alan Seabaugh. “The opportunity that I have been afforded is a direct result of the hard work by those legislators such as Representative Seabaugh and local officials, like Arlena Acree and Pam Glorioso in the Shreveport-Bossier Film Office, who have labored tirelessly to create a great environment for the film industry”, added Yawn.

Mark Yawn met Lex in Shreveport around 2007, and eventually hired on a project with him, and has done several films since that time all over Louisiana, as well as other states.

Asked on his chances of winning, Yawn says, “You know, while it would be great to win, I am excited just to be part of the nomination, winning is only secondary and would just be a bonus!”
The nominees were invited to attend the red carpet affair in Los Angeles this weekend.
